Great review, thought you'd write something for this. The first paragraph is a nice touch, it puts things in perspective. Decided to check some tracks you mentioned (The Surprising, All I Got Is You, Birds of Prey) and this is much better than I expected. The Bedlam single left me a bit cold when it was released but this stuff rules

Thanks Sab. To me, tracks like the three aforementioned is where these guys excel at this point of their career. The slow, atmospheric, semi-prog stuff. Their more straightforward rock songs sound a bit too ordinary even though there are interplays in between which add some excitement.

Great review, save for the classics I'm not big on the band, but I should check this out.

I enjoyed now what !? to some extend, I'll be sure to check that one at some point too.
Nice review. And good point about the actual line-up having lasted more than the most famous one. It has to count for something.

Good review manos. After couple of listens, I can't decide between a 3 or a 3.5.

A little typo at the penultimate paragraph;

''...from Monteux to the land of the rising sun''

it's safe for me to say that i don't really care for modern day Purple......for the exact reason manos stated above regarding straightforward rock tunes......The Surprising and Birds Of Prey are pretty great though

i may 2.5 this

Yeah I agree. ''Get me outta here'' reminds me of ''I'm all shook up'' by Elvis.

''Johnny's Band'' is also pretty bland (no pun intended).

Purpendicular is supposedly one of the best of the modern day Purple (according to Progarchives), right after Now What. Anyway, I'll try to give them all a try sooner or later.

Nice catch Jethro, thanks! It seems that there is also a town called Monteux in southeastern France which is quite picturesque. Seems that, subconsciously, I was thinking of that haha.

Nice review Manos. I'm trying hard not to be emotional and auto-3.5 this, but the truth is Now What?! seems much better

I know the feeling man. First couple of listens were a bit disappointing for me but progressively and I was writing this review I enjoyed it more. I feel that Now What?! is a bit more consistent but to me it doesn't have as much highs as this one. But then again I haven't jammed Now What?! in its entirety for some time now so I may be talking out of my ass haha.
