Honestly when I saw the rating I was like, "Oh great another review trying to point out that we're all sheep on this site for liking Swans." But this was really well written and I've often wondered if my love for The Seer is just psychological conditioning from repeatedly trying to "get" the album after seeing the ratings for the album. When I first listened to it I couldn't understand why anybody would like it, but it was at least interesting so I kept trying until like months later I figured out that I loved it. Maybe it took me that long to figure out the nuances OR maybe I grew to like it a lot more because it was familiar, in the way that the more time you spend around somebody, the more attractive and interesting they are.

>But when I listen to them today, I feel as absurd of myself as I do of grown men who still think Catcher in the Rye or On the Road are formative classic works of literature. There are things that are made for you to absorb when you’re an empty kid looking to find meaning. Tabula Rasa art. It works best when applied to teenagers, and teenage boys in particular.
