If the entire album is as good as Pathway, then this will be the 2017 metal album to top in my books.

I don't listen to Enslaved so that'd explain hearing more Agalloch than Enslaved. Also explains why I'm not digging this that much since Enslaved is butts. :3

Winter is one of Fen's strongest efforts to date, for sure, but I agree that Carrion Skies is still their crown jewel, on the whole. As covered in my review, Winter is a massive interconnected paced piece, and thus never peaks as hard on each individual track. It's superbly immersive and well produced, but Carrion Skies blows You away with each song, if You take the time to get to know each composition. I also simply prefer the more triumphant tone of Carrion Skies to the moody mire of Winter.

TL;DR this album is fucking excellent

only time will tell. Oceanic proved quintessential and Panopticon was a more cerebral expansion on it, so the dynamics of these two fit the bill, if not the revelatory initial reception.
