i love pop lyrics sometimes

in julia kwamya's "cruel" she compresses t he first two-thirds' central lyric "i never knew anyone who could be so cruel" to just "i never knew anyone"

whereas in wool in the wash they do the opposite, they expand: "oh how I got"->"oh how I got so small like a wool in the wash"

both have the effect of shifting the emotional narrative in a subtle way that seems so organic

im gonna cry
