This doesn't sound sterile though, sounds fine, it has punch and you can hear all the instruments. If you want everything to sound like crap it's your deal but this is actually well produced.

And that's pretty much the only positive thing I can say about this.

This review literally only talked about the breakdowns practically the entire time.

I like sterility in some genres of music, mainly sci-fi related ambient or tech death or even black metal.
But I think in these styles of music it's just 100% against the point of what makes it interesting or enjoyable

agree for the most part but they were obviously going for this industrial, oppressive, machine esque aesthetic. its got a real nice texture and groove to it that wouldnt have been achieved without some of the sterility.

FearThyEvil, that's really not true. True things have to come after the word literally. I just talked about what was in the album. Also, the album had A LOT of breakdowns, man.

Honestly this review is a glorified track by track but it's fine because it highlights things well

but it really doesn't

"Ballou's over-produced and highly polished production"
What are you talking about? "over-produced" and "highly polished" are not words I would use to describe Ballou's production style.

i would, he strips the life out of a lot of hardcore
|

the only things I could even start to consider overproduced would be the electronic bits, and even those fit in very well

"i would, he strips the life out of a lot of hardcore"
I strongly disagree, but okay.

some bands I can agree there
(I.e. coliseum) , but this, not at all

Stevey boy, I definitely admit, with no qualms at all, that this is a glorified track by track, but I also don't think I say one thing that isn't true about the album. I just interpret the content differently than you and our different interpretations are okay.
And yeah, Ballou's production does sound so enhanced. It doesn't sound all stupid and computer-y like a Joey Sturgis scenecore stuff, but you can see where it'd sound too polished. Like in that new Sumac record, every drum kick felt like a semi-truck and drums don't even do all that.

In his defense nick yacyshyn hits his drums like a semi truck

Dude is definitely a monster drummer, one of the very best in metal/hardcore today, but Kurt's recordings are just inhumanly heavy. They don't even sound like people anymore. Riffs sound like super mutants fighting and shit.

nothing wrong with that lol, but sometimes style and production don't match. new SUMAC record sounded great compared to most of Ballou's work cuz Turner was part of that process too.

I don't think the production is the issue here it's the lack of musical direction

Oh definitely that. I was just commenting on how unrealistic it actually sounds. I still like it, but everything is worth critiquing. Some of the moments are so thrown together. Who told him that he could almost rap on a song and that'd be okay?
