'production is far from awful'
you kidding, it's thin as fuck and the vocals are usually too low, or muddy. on the later albums it's
way too polished and all generally lacks power compared to other records of the time

i can't imagine this album sounding any other way, it isn't a problem for me
the production on everything falls apart, metal circus, zen arcade and the eight miles high 7" is fine/appropriate for the material

i don't think a bit more clarity would have hurt it though. take the early fugazi albums for instance, they sound fantastic and were done on a budget, i don't see why other bands cant do the same
