What? You actually think i shut down lotusflower because of backlash? fuck man.
|
| |
Why'd you do it then? All changing accounts this often does is cause people to not realize it's you
Are you trying to go under the radar?
|
| |
I mean, if you need an actual explanation Ars:
1. LotusFlower is a bad name and changing from Clover is a mistake, I have been considering going back to my old account for quite some time just because I like the name better.
2. I threw together a shitpost in 20 minutes after Blacknails begged me not to talk about the album in a news thread because I knew eventually id attract him to the thread and it was a glorious 10+ pages.
3. A lot of people, at least older users, know who I am on this account so its w/e.
If I REALLY wanted to go under the radar, I wouldve done what I did the first time i switched accounts by making a brand new one and pretending I was someone else for a while. It was a stupid way to commit account suicide and I didnt think it would be THAT concerning. And if I really "collapsed" under the pressure of backlash on that other review, I wouldve had it deleted after attempting nonstop damage control.

You give the album a 2.5 for it sounding like sum 41? Doesn't make sense. They are sum 41 after all.

I think it makes perfect sense, if you read the review, he was talking about how he feels that Sum 41 borrows from their own previous material. So when a band sounds like itself for rehashing its own material, it's a reasonable talking point.

Not only are they desperately trying to appeal to nostalgia and failing due to the novelty of turn of the millenium pop punk being short-lived, it shows that the band has not progressed or evolved at all. They sound like they are just trying to re-use offcuts from their first three albums, which wouldn't be awful in itself, but it's done so so sloppily and without any thought as to how they managed to craft at least enjoyable hooks back in their prime. The production is ghastly. And perhaps what is most disappointing is that many people pinned their downfall in quality on Dave's departure, but even now he has returned it's no different. It just goes to show that there was a time and a place for them and they are far past their sell-by date. Maybe i'll collect these thoughts in a review idk.

I see your point, but I do have to disagree with you on a few things. Honestly, I feel that early 2000s pop punk (including the ones that blended pop rock and pop punk) were in some cases the peak of the genre. I still feel there's a place for it in modern times.
As for this album specifically, I still find the hooks on here absolutely infectious, and feel that they included enough variety and influence from all stages of their discography to consider this one of their better albums (it's at least better than Screaming Bloody Murder in my eyes)

I don't think I've ever seen so many butt hurt accounts signing up to support a band... it's just Sputnik guys

I've never heard a Sum 41 album before this, and this still doesn't sound fresh.

the only album from this band that id say is worth looking at is Chuck, its the only thing in their career that sounds like they actually figured out what they were trying to do.
