I mean, when it's the artist himself saying that he tried approaching this with his usual methods and getting nothing out of it, it's only natural he's going to go a different direction. I think he made the natural and more healthy decision to take a chance and do something different while mantaining his own style and I think he pulled it off more than well.

Yeah, a lot of aspects are definitely refreshing. Just wish I liked it more

to clarify, I'm not shitting on K cause he hit roadblocks with the usual routine and went for something different; I appreciate the approach towards growing as a songwriter. It's just that the route he took doesn't appeal to me as much in comparison. Not denying the songwriting here, it's still good, just not up my alley the way Lighght was.
But then again Lighght is one of my favorite albums of the decade, so comparing the two is probably a bad idea to begin with.

Primal aggressions in a Kishi thread? Will he eventually cause WW3 with this album?

I'd like to like this
This is definitely in the 'big n' bland' Pitchfork genre along with stuff like M83 and the latest Tame Impala and the song writing is even by the standard of the genre (it's an official genre c'mon) really dull

Damn, I'd definitely say it's unique enough to be distinct from the Pitchfork stuff

Those are all quite unique artists but something about the song writing and production choices blandifies everything into 'really busy arrangements and loud...yet strangely a bit indistinct'.
It's a sound, a very 10's sound

how is this indistinct?

Album Rating: 3.0
It's just a mushy mix of lots of influences given a glossy 'Currents' big n' bland production job - and the guy can't really write distinct melodies or lyrical hooks either
It's not awful, some nice touches and choices of sounds, but it leaves me with nothing distinct/memorable at all

What? There are tonnes of amazing and distinct melodies all over Lighght though

No there aren't - there are a lot of attempts, all rushing and lapping over one other, but like water they don't stick
Strip these songs down and there would not be anything particularly affecting or engaging left, I'm sure of it
