Sowing, I'm not all that familiar with the roots, but I think they're similar in de la's jazzier, east coast moments. This is more genre hopping than anything.
I'm not sure what to think of Lord Intended anymore-, the more I listen to it, the more I both hate it and love it. Like I love how ballsy the whole thing is, but sometimes it bugs me.

Well yeah. Rap is all about flow and lyrical prowess, and at its core it's just one of many facets of hip hop. Hip-hop encompasses musical and artistic expression in all forms, from rap, to DJing, to B-Boying, to graffiti art. From my understanding, this album is hip hop because it was created in the spirit of musical collaboration and experimentation, which is another core facet of hip hop. Where's lambs to back me up?
