Nice Lark, that's my favorite tune here, top 10 song of the year too

I'm still not sure whether this is their best album. Most bands I would know that sort of thing, RF are just so consistent in tone and quality I really can't decide

I'm hoping to prefer another album to this, they seem like too good a band not to have a 4.5 or two - granted this could be one itself

They've levelled out as a 4/5 band for me...but they probably have ten albums 4 worthy in their discog

That's fair, some bands never quite pull it together for that one truly amazing album but over the course of a discog have way more great songs than your "one classic album wonder" sort of artists and there's really no shame in that. Sometimes it's easy to forget that albums aren't everything. Plus a bunch of 4/5s is nothing to scoff at anyways.

That sort of holds out checking RYM:

1st: Post to Wire [3.71].....just bumped it to a 4, couple of things I don't like about it but it's a 4

2nd: Winnemucca [3.70].....only listened twice, I'll bump that 3 rating I put up in time

3rd: Fitzgerald [3.64]...only listened once, seemed very downbeat even by RF standards

4th: Lost Son [3.54}....not spun it, know a couple of songs, will listen today

5th: We Used to Think [3.50]...know this one well, great, VERY similar to this album.

6th: Thirteen Cities [3.48]....another one I know very well, possibly better than this one (my first RF)

7th: You Can't [3.45]...this album, RYM has it in the middle ratings wise.

8th: Miles From [3.42]...not heard this one bar a song or two.

9th: Obliteration [3.29]...reworkings album, not heard much of it.

10th: High Country [3.23]...almost a soundtrack album, lots of spoken word, still nice stuff

A band with six or seven 4s under their belts is really impressive imo.

Other bands who seem to always release 4s for me are Wild Beasts and The Antlers, and overall they're two of my favourite bands of the last decade. War on Drugs might be another if this year's release ends up a 4. Fleet Foxes too.

Anything more than 2-3 4+ albums I consider impressive.

Gotta give Willy some credit for the Delines album as well.

I really hope there's another Delines album, think there was the potential for a classic in those ingredients

Guessing there'll be at least one other 4.5 in it for you if you do investigate

Then again, part of me likes the idea that people would only need one Richmond Fontaine album in their life, they all do the same thing, more or less

Vlautin's novels are classic too, especially 'Lean on Pete'

I've read about half of Lean on Pete, it was enjoyable in a depressing kind of way but I kind of got distracted and don't have much time to read these days anyways.

ill definitely get around to it, whether the production varys at all or not im sure the core of his music which is his storytelling and witt is found in most or all of his releases

Kinda sounds like he's singing "wake or break" instead of "wake up Ray" which sounds like a line by Matt Berlinger. He should scream that on their next album
