That song (for me) stops this from having a higher rating.

I like JCR'n'R. It's fun AND pissed at the same time. Yes, the hook sounds rather funny with Kyo's Engurish but that's a cross most J-rock bands bear

Oh and on that note, I think Kyo's english versions of Dozing Green and Glass Skin are god awful. Not that there's a problem with him doing english, it's just that when a song is written in a language and then translated-the transition does not go well most of the time. He should go down the Melt-Banana route and write straight up english if he wants to sing in english. For the record, I think the English tracks in Marrow come off better.

Mostly because the English on TMOB is screamed in a near-indecipherable way.

Yeah, totally agree about Dozing Green and Glass Skin. Glass Skin suffered especially badly from English lyrics.

Yeah, singing in English doesn't work in their favour.

Throw on Merciless Cult and you've got it 100% @Calc.

I've fallen down the rabbit hole that is known as DeG's discog. At first I only liked Uro. Then Uro and Arche. Then all of the power 3 + Gauze. And now everything minus Macabre, Kisou, and Vulgar but I'm sure they're going to start growing on me as well.

As for the LP comparisons, they're definitely valid in terms of some of the early-mid 00's radio rock riffage (compare the intro riff of Beautiful Dirt and Hit The Floor by LP) the two bands did completely different things MINUS those few riffs. I LOVE Chester, but Kyo is WAY more versatile. The bassist in DeG is way more technically (and creatively) inclined as is the rest of the instrumental section. The best parts of LP are such normal fare for DeG it's like comparing Killswitch to any other metalcore band on the basis of having some chugs. Imo DeG is more comparable to Deftones, but even then they're still way more experimental.

"As for the LP comparisons"

This shouldn't even be a conversation.

Yeah, Merciless Cult is a tune.

Don't see the Chester comparisons, he's matched more to Mike Patton in terms of vocal versatility.

Despite both being so good they're complete opposites as them which I love. Mike is so controlled with incredible technique thus been at peak for so many years, being so consistent vocally and blending like a chameleon to anything he's put in. While Kyo is a force of nature that has no care for damage or technique but puts so much emotion into it and is so talented it works.

I have to fully agree with that tbh. But I'm just saying, if there has to be a comparison, Chester ain't it. haha Patton would be the closest imo.

Gonzo, who compared Kyo to Chester? I think you glossed over my point haha. And if you guys refuse to hear the similarities due to the genre staples that's fine but they're there. Listen to the two riffs I mentioned and you'll know what I mean. That being said, they're wildly different songs and DeG is way more creative and shouldn't be pinned down to one genre/sound. Comparing DeG to a Nu Metal band makes more sense than comparing them to an indie pop band but I still don't think it holds up because DeG isn't a Nu Metal band they just have some of the elements of it.

One riff, yeah. The bands are so different I don't see the point mentioning the very slight similarities with some of their guitar playing around the 2003-2005 period. Although speaking of Nu Metal Dir I'm glad we got a ton of that back with Tour Kisou and Vulgar, such good shows.

The first seconds of "Itoshi..." have always made me think of some early LP songs, but once the clean guitar kicks in, it's all DEG.

@Evo exactly what I mean!

Haha Calc I know what you're saying but I'm talking in particularly in context of this album which is right in that period you're talking about. Their newer stuff is extremely different from LP (and Nu Metal on the whole) and I'd never compare them to each other. But since the commenter stated they hadn't heard anything like Diru (after hearing this album) and someone responded with the LP claim and everyone came at him, I'm just saying it's not a shabby comparison for people who aren't aware of what's going on in Japan or feel the need to categorize bands. You're right though, those shows are monstrous and I think some of these songs are more fun to watch live than their newer stuff (emphasis on fun).
