There were far more interesting drummers during the try-outs (or whatever). They got the yes-man that wouldn't change existing songs and would play whatever the band wanted him to.

Mangini is a ghost to me to be honest. The drums work but they don't spark something that makes me say "hell yeah what a drum player" like it did on some of Portnoy's tracks.

IwoJima you need to chill out, don't be so offended just because someone criticized something you really like. All of this is subjective and although you are right that even Lars is a good drummer (horrible compared to other professionals) you should know that when people say that they are just comparing it to what a pro should sound like in a band.

IwoJima22 you have done me a great service today reminding me new Avantasia came out, and is fantastic so far. In return I will listen to this afterwords and go in as unbiased as possible

Pretty much this, if I judged things for myself I wouldn't have so many low rated albums. If a majority of people think somethings garbo, I'm probably not going to bother listening to it.
I will listen to this later though because in all fairness I have never heard a bad DT album because I have only heard their absolute best.
