Well it was intended as both in a way. My overall point (which I could have expressed more clearly) was that his catalogue is sonically rather homogenous. And that the praise for him "departing" from his normal style is folly

Well see now that ^ is a salient point that I could get behind.
It's like, whenever you touch on something that I can nod my head in agreement with, you just go off and talk about Kanye instead of expanding on the thing you just posited
|
| |
Yeah that's a fair point to make. That's related to his music as well which is a much more interesting argument than "Drake sucks."
I mean, I'm not here to bash you about your opinion. I think it's fine, but it just isn't expressed clearly. Tell me more about Drake's shortcomings that make him suck to you and give me less thinly veiled insults like the whole "artist" thing.

if youre reading this sounds nothing like take care

it's well written and articulated, I think you just put too much of your own feelings in the review with no context behind them. that's normally fine if you're talking about how your dad left or something and tying that into how the music channels those emotions through you or whatever but here it just reads like you think drake sucks with the constant jabs in parenthesis and tangents. use your powers for a positive review and I bet it'll be pretty damn good
|
| |
Yeah agree with Calc, the writing here is good, I just don't think it really makes a clear point about the album.

That's fair, admittedly it ended up harsher in tone than was the original intent. Which, was probably an ill-advised move to write it just after reading a publications best rapper by-year list

Asdfp277, shut the fuck up. You keep popping up in threads and chatting complete shit. This is no where near a 1 either, nothing like Kanye, the point about Meek is moot, too. The general consensus on Drake's two tracks (b2b, charged) is positive and they were well-received. You clearly dislike Drake, which is fine but your review doesn't support your rating very well. Guitarded one of the few people who have sense itt.

review's really not that bad, I mean there's a clear bias against Drake but writing-wise it's pretty decent

Addressing guitarded's earlier point: I said that he greatly benefited from his feud with Meek Mill. What I absolutely did NOT say was that it's the reason for his popularity. He was unquestionably a huge act prior to that episode, but the general reaction from the hip-hop community was that he had somehow reached a higher level of skill through that beef.

its irrelevant because he was already huge and probably the biggest artist in hip hop (yes bigger than kanye now)
where are you reading in the "hip hop community" that the beef had anything to do with his skill
that doesnt even make sense

He has a bit of a point there, the sentence you criticized doesn't imply Meek having been more popular at all, and Drake definitely reaped the benefits of that beef. I wouldn't say he came out of it with more skill, though.

I should rephrase. I mean, that the general attitude was the release of his Meek Mill diss tracks was that he had solidified himself as a rap legend. And I'm not speaking of random message board postings. Just to offer one example of many:

oh some webzine writing some hyperbole about some celebrity who recently did something

meek mill is not mentioned in that article

Tree, I think he has a point, people do listen to these webzines despite the fact that they too are also chatting shit 95% of the time.

I mean he's the most popular rapper in the world and has been for a bit now so I'd say he's somewhat of a 'legend'
In terms of ability he is obviously not on par with a Biggie or Kanye or Kendrick, but in terms of famous hip hop acts you could do a hell of a lot worse than Drake
