I'm curious if you heard the whole album or only snippets? Japanese rock is something of an acquired taste, it might grow on you. I would not say best, with so many great albums, some in genres I don't really follow, but it's certainly my favorite release of 2015.

This is not just post-punk anyway, but the influences are more than evident on certain tracks in order to deserve the tag; that will inevitably make it show up in the charts when you filter the genre. If you wanted typical post-punk from top to bottom, you've come to the wrong album.

The sheer attention to detail and atmosphere this is draped in is incredible.

Agreed, it's the attention to detail that I still find staggering. It's been written and produced in the best way possible, really. For example, I'm listening to Mother at the moment and there's little guitar lines and scrapes just thrown in that add so much colour to, at its base, a fairly simple track.

When you have Jake on guitar what are you expecting? ;)

True. His pedalboard is about the size of my house :L

Yukio Murata is an integral part as well. His effect board is even larger, I think.

Yeah, I think you might be right there. It would be disingenuous to say it's all the effects that make this is as powerful as it is, but they certainly do help.
Sakurai's vocal performance, on the other hand... :3

Sakurai makes every album he is on though so that is not really fair :P
