bummed out it's confirmed there won't be a National album next year tbh, this was barely a stop gap
Sorry to be a downer

I'm actually happy about that, because I think they need time to tinker with their sound. Even though I really really like "Trouble will find me", I think they hit a point in their career where they need to stop just riding the sound/aesthetic they figured out somewhere between "Sad songs for dirty lovers" and "Alligator".

Ed you might be right, I think each of their last four albums was just different enough from the others to avoid stagnation but they probably need to do something quite [ahem] radical, on the next one

This is such a fantastic listen. Surprised by the lukewarm reaction this has gotten from profs reviews, seems like they're just offput that it's more fun and less deep and urgent than The National, which is completely the wrong way to think about it.

It's definitely great but I listened to it a ton the first week after it came out but have only spun it a couple times since.

@ BoneyKing I guess I'm a sucker. Coldplay were one of the bands that introduced me to music beyond the charts and I still think that 3 of their 4 first albums were absolutely great pop albums. So I had hope that they would break out of that slump.

coldplay is still one of my fav bands so it's sucks to hear them sucking

@RadEd: They had that exact same role in the development of my taste, and I also still love three of their four first albums, I just wrote them off totally after Mylo Xyloto. It's not impossible for them to break out of this rut, but it's extremely unlikely.

I prefer this to any Coldplay album, though the first two and Viva come close.
