I really think Microcastles still outshines the rest of this band's discography, although the later albums do have their moments.

Great review btw

The only reasonm I think Microcastle and indeed earlier stuff like Cryptograms suffer is the lack of a standout track. Halcyon had Helicopter and He Would Have Laughed, Monomania had Blue Agent, this has Snakeskin and Ad Astra, Microcastle definitely has some great tracks like Agoraphobia, but they don't really standout outside of the whole album context.

I dunno, for me 'Never Stops' and 'Nothing Ever Happened' are the standouts on Microcastle, but the whole thing just hangs together real nice. I'd probably pick 'Desire Lines' from halcyon and 'Sleepwalking' from monomania as standouts though

Nothing Ever Happened is the standout on Microcastle, really like the title track on that one too.

this has Snakeskin and Ad Astra,

it confounds me that we agree on Halcyons best tracks and then u go on to say Snakeskin is the best on this....

Snakeskin is the worst song by a large margin

Halcyon Digest had bits and pieces of ambiance and space scattered across it. Any of that here?

yeah, bits of smooth psychedelia are scattered about in a similar fashion, but just like Halcyon its not jam packed with them

Snakeskin is the worst song here but I really like the last 90 seconds, matches the underlying feel of the album and even the Monomania sounding start of the song isn't that bad... I mean probably could have done without the snake rattle sound effect but they're playing for dumb so I let them off

The end of the song matches the album for me but that intro in the context of following 'Leather and Wood'...well it makes me laugh nearly every time and I'm not sure that's the effect they wanted

Going to watch them soon, I want to see if they play it live.

I remember they played Sailing and Basement Scene when supporting Halcyon Digest so there's a chance

idk it's a lot catchier than the rest of the songs, it had more impact on first listen than some of the others. Only had 3-4 listens so far though, might change
