itcotck is the best album ever
| | | Album Rating: 3.5
not even close
| | | it is my fav rock album overall anyway : )
| | | Album Rating: 3.5
I love it too, don't get me wrong, I'd 5 it if it wasn't for Moonchild but I think there are better prog albums wether it is on their concept, musical technique, etc...
Only if we count KC's discog I prefer Red
| | | red is great but itcotck is more akin to my preference of prog,i lean toward improvisation more when it comes to prog
also lakes performance is the best male rock performance i've ever heard
he is just like the male version of annie but more mature lol
| | | Album Rating: 3.5
He's awesome I agree, probably one of the very few problems with prog is the lack of talented voices
| | | red is more of a heavy prog album which is great ofc but not something i prefer
anyway its all about preferences

Ok, guys. As a resume, we can say that for all of us, with the exception of SirLord that elected the two first albums of Procol Harum, ITCOTCK is the first real prog album in the history and KC the first truly prog band.
And what about the best prog album in the history? Only Hovse has elected ITCOTCK as the best. So, let's discuss that,l if you really want.
So, here is is my contribution. Always was very difficult to me, elect the best or even my favourite prog album. I always hesitated between Selling England By The Pound, Thick As Brick, Close To The Edge and Whish You Were Here. However, the best prog album ever, is probably TAAB. Its impact on prog was probably as important as ITCOTCK was.
So, let's see other opinions.

My favorite prog album is easily Crime of the Century, conceptually speaking is perfect, beautiful and emotional songwriting disguised as happy pop songs with simple instrumentation. One of the very few works I've cried to

I'm very surprised with your choice. I never thought in that. Anyway, great album and nice choice. It's also my favourite album of Supertramp and I rated it with 5.0, but I never would put it in a so high level.
| | | Album Rating: 3.5
Yeah, certainly not a popular opinion, Jethro is the only one that might agree with me in it being top level prog
| | | Album Rating: 4.0
Yeah, man. It's only a question of personal taste. The album is really awesome. And very important is I had the privilege to saw the band in a live show in the distant 70's in my country, near of Lisbon. I think it was on the presentation of their album Breakfast In America. And I assure you that it was a great concert.

I've seen Supertramp in there Breakfast in America tour myself, in 1979, my very first show, and yes it was a memorable one. Jean-Luc Ponty opened for them. What a night.
Great choice, Gentleman. Crime of the Century has great atmosphere all around and it only contains very catchy songs, and it also finishes with probably the most haunting fade-out ever recorded.
I could have chosen that album effectively, if it wasn't for Maneige - Ni Vent, Ni Nouvelle, a sentimental valued album I grew up with. I know each and every single note out of it. Album is totally instrumental and is composed of multi-instrumentalist musicians.
It's a kind of jazz Fusion, but it's first and foremost a progressive rock gem. They are not popular here in Sput, but I swear it, they were praised by the proggers of my province (Québec).
It's a flute-laden band that also uses saxophones, clarinet, guitars, violin, cello, vibraphone and a series of percussions. They lead themselves into classical mixed with folk, tinted with jazz tones, and they also embrace chamber rock music. They are indeed a progressive rock band to the bone and unique in their genre.
For fans of Camel.
So yes, for me it's Maneige - Ni Vent, ni Nouvelle. My number 1. Highly recommended.

You do not cease to amaze me Jethro, special you. I was checking out some info about Maneige and it seems That you're right. Maneige seems to be a great band. It seems I have to listen to them very shortly. So it seems you did a surprisingly but a great choice. Anyway, I Became completely surprised with it. With a man that choose the image of Ian Anderson, was supposed to choose Aqualung or especially TAAB, as I did. However, we never ceased to be surprised. Cheers, for an obscure choice, despite be a band of your home.

Yeah. Very interesting choices. I vote in Selling England by the Pound.

I have to precise that my nickname was chosen when I frequented a chat-room around ten years ago, and so I decided to keep the same nickname for Sputnik. In fact, I'm not necessarily the biggest fan of Jethro Tull around (JamieTwort is first in that matter), but don't get me wrong, I really enjoy their classic era and more, in fact, because they released great albums before and after their heydays. TAAB is certainly in my top 5 albums, and I also praise Aqualung a lot. I don't know if it would be in my top 10 though. Top 12 maybe hahah.

Ok, Jethro. I'm very glad you love Jethro Tull, like me. And yes SirLord, "In the world of prog there are tons of legit choices for best album", without any doubt.
Jethro, I've the same opinion as you about Jethro Tull. Jethro Tull belongs to my list of the 10 best bands ever.
Thanks man for your link about Maneige.
