Their first album is my favorite doom album, right above The Dreadful Hours.

Really want to check this out.
Can't wait for my copy to arrive.

that's accurate. the nature of FD doesn't exactly allow for a whole lot of innovation within the genre, so it makes sense for them to change their sound into something more progressive when threatened with stagnation. a lot of people like twinkly isistodon stuff but it'd rather just listen to FD

im not a fan of funeral doom in general tbh, too depressive, i prefer my doom to be funeral-less
but i also dont generally like twinkly anything, especially isistodon stuff but i found this pretty well done
the funny thins is out of all 3 of the bands i mentioned i actually only like isis and i really hate mastodon and giant squid
but i like this even tho it reminds me of a shit mix of the 3

i've never listened to giant squid tbh :v isis is original and progressive without being wanky but i can't necessarily say the same for mastodon
this is well-done, it's just not my cup o' chamomile

usually not mine either, not for years anyway, ive become quite disenamoured with metal over the last couple years even tho i grew up on that shit. pretty picky and critical about most of it now.
|
| |
agreed. electronic music generally has more to offer me these days, but I still find time to jam some good ol' metal. has to be something special though or I lose interest fast.

I have...yet to find any artist who can consistently entertain me with electronic music. it sounds so sterile and boring when everything is symmetric, perfect, and clean-cut. there was an article I really need to dig up on NPR about how drum machines sound soulless because there is no variation in timing, and our brains naturally tune out sounds that are repeated exactly.
|
| |
then I can safely presume you've not fully explored the spectrum of electronic music. try some Burial, Nocow, Thriftworks, FlyLo or similar if you don't like clean-cut and symmetry.

Thanks, I'll give them a look. It's not like I'm trying to dislike electronic music, but it's probably like metal: you have to look for the good stuff because what you hear on the radio and TV is mass-media crap.
|
| |
pretty much. I'm sure there's stuff out there that you would find surprisingly good.

I dug Innerpartysystem's debut. Maybe I'll jam that again and work outward from there too.
