I understand the sentiment behind implying that this album is for "grown-ups", but I ultimately disagree. Parallax II was a hell of a lot better than this release IMO, and I totally understand that they're probably not going to return to their Colors/Alaska sound anytime soon. My disliking of this album extends way outside of the fact that this isn't an old BTBAM sound but I digress.

Just because the band can noodle around on their instruments and never play the same riff twice doesn't make this some sort of phenomenal album. It's boring, it's dull, it's uninspired, and it's completely average and fails to stand out in comparison to other heavy albums coming out this year.

Man you think you know so much don't you. Good for you man. All I'm saying is your rating is way off. If you look at your solid history of rating albums here on sputnik you have a plethora of albums rated ahead of this terrible btbam album. For example, you have a Taylor Swift album rated higher than this (amonst a shit ton of others). TAYLER SWIFT DUDE. Your rating is for attention and nothing more. The know it all elitist assholes on this site that agree with you are full of shit as well.

Am I allowed to think the album is bretty good, not amazing, not awful?

yeah

its similar to most btbam albums in that it has some really cool parts and nice arrangements and stuff but also a lot of fluff and unmemorable sections that add nothing to the album

I like how the typical defense here is to go look at how someone else ranks albums and then chastise them as soon as you find that they ranked an album you hate highly.

Yes, I did rank 1989 higher than this. In terms of sheer relevance, that album is doing a lot more for pop than this is doing for progressive metal. I could talk about this for days, but i'm surprised that all it takes is a stranger's opinion to get your jimmies rustled over the internet.

After being gone from this site for a bit, I'll say that this is probably one of the poorest reviews i've ever written and it deserves the downvotes that it got. I stand by most of my reviews but frankly, I just wasn't interested enough in this release to write a compelling argument justifying my disliking for it.
