Mong and I share the favorite top 2, honestly GR would be tied with MAYH for third for me. Morningrise and WS closely after

MAYH is definitely among their best work. I've just never saw anything outside of the box when it comes to GR. It's Opeth being Opeth but it lots of amazing moments for sure.

yeah that's a fair ranking. I prefer Morningrise and MAYH because they're both so emotional compared to the other ones but in terms of the overall quality and consistency SL and BWP are the best

GR is far from perfect and half the songs indeed drag, but it contains some of their very best cuts as well. I also adore the medieval gothic atmosphere it has, as well as Mikael's vocal performance and the production/mixing. It balances extreme metal with progressive rock the best out of all their albums too.

yeah GR has some of my favourite Opeth tracks but also some of my least favourite

Idk dudes GR is pretty perfect to me. Some songs may drag a little in places, but it doesn't stop me from digging it.
As for BWP, it's still an amazing album, but I don't consider it one of their very best.

BWP balances everything about this band so fucking perfectly. SL too of course but BWP even more.

I'd agree with that. I mean it's still a 4.5 for me so I still love it. If it was any other band it would be their magnum opus, but it's Opeth so.... ;]

BWP just lacks the feels you know?

But dude that softer section in Leper omg. Plus almost all of Bleak. BWP has different kind of feels as a whole. It feels more evil and exhilarating. It makes me wanna break shit.

Idk about evil sounding bro. It's probably the least evil sounding of all the metal albums tbh.

Well his vocals at least but BWP, SL and MAYH are the ones that get the blood pumping the most.

BWP is their most emotional and mature sounding for me. Everything is perfect, and there're so many beautiful and incredible quiet sections as well. The Leper Affinity, Bleak, and the t/t are just stunning. The Drapery Falls and Dirge for November are droning masterpieces that sound like nothing else, and The Funeral Portrait riffs like no other. The acoustic moments are so heavy and emotional as well.

I always found BWP just a bit too polished

i prefer fredrik nordstrom's production on still life but bwp is nothing short of brilliant

I don't find the styles to be that different compared to each other but both SL and BWP are mind blowing that's for sure.

I'm not really referring to the production. BWP is produced perfectly, no complaints there. The songs themselves just seem too overly thought out and precise rather than having the feeling of spontaneity that this and MAYH have if that makes any sense

The best thing about this album is easily the acoustic sections which are by far the best they ever recorded.
2nd best Peth overall for me.
