I'm not in the mood to analyze reviews right now, but I thought it was fine.

This is one of those Agalloch albums that I never gave much of a chance. I remember it being good but a slight let down, I probably listened 4-5 times tops then forgot about it.

don't know what you mean when you say the acoustic melodies are still there because outside of that

classical guitar piece in nidstang and playing a backing rhythm role in the watchers monolith they are

completely absent

That's more than in ashes but no one seems to mind there

Yeah except on "Not Unlike the Waves" they are actually good and contribute to the atmosphere and

progression of the song whereas in "The Watcher's Monolith" they just linger in the background and do

nothing. If you're going to include them at least make them do something.

well actually they are still there, just not on the surface so much (and obviously not to the same extent as on the earlier albums). don't forget the one on to drown

Ah yes I did forget "To Drown", you are correct. Although I also think "To Drown" is the worst track Agalloch has ever made so I don't really listen to it as much as the rest of the record.

i really like to drown but like most people i think it's way too long. i often forget about it too when talking about this album

It would be a lot better if they made it half the length

Nice review, Art.

One suggestion:

However, Marrow isn’t all that different from Ashes

You might want to either reword this or italicize either the word 'all' or 'that' so as not to sound like you're completely contradicting what you said earlier (Marrow is a completely different beast than Ashes.).
