ah it grew a little on me

The production on this is terrible. The snare (and the drums in general) sound awful, and they're too low in the mix. How did they mess it up this bad?
The songwriting is pretty good though - 'Prophecies' blew me away this morning. 'Twilight of the Gods' is meh/same old but their single songs usually are sub-par for BG standards (see 'A Voice in the Dark' and 'Another Stranger Me'). I would say that most of BG's stuff needs a fair bit of time to grow on you, so I don't want to make so many judgements on this yet.

Another Stranger Me is a pretty sweet tune in my book

i liked both a voice in the dark and another stranger me tbh. cant really grasp the relative dislike for a twist in the myth anyway

Twist rips hard agreed Flug, just listen to those riffs and rhythms in This Will Never End

I never understood why people don't like twist in the myth either. It's not my favorite BG album but it still has some great songs.

Perhaps the style on songs like Fly turn them off, who knows
I love it

Twist in the Myth is by no means a bad album, but it pales a bit in comparison to most of BG's catalog. With that being said, I still enjoy it immensely; just not AS immensely.

This has some of the worst production i've ever heard in this genre... it's not bad in a black metal way but
bad in a way that is far more detrimental to the music than that. It's embarrassing.

Maybe I'm musically retarded or something, but I've listened to this album probably a dozen times now and the production doesn't bother me in the slightest.

Drums are way, way too quiet and everything just seems distant. Listen to their last record side by side
with this and there's a huge difference. Things are improved slightly when listened to through good
headphones with an amp/dac but it's still poor.

I kind of see what you mean with the drums, although honestly that doesn't bother me a huge deal. I don't notice a major different between this and their last record, but hey, I've never been much of an audiophile so I may be completely missing something. I've never paid more than $70 for a pair of headphones in my life, and I usually listen to music through either my laptop speakers (whilst doing work) or a $30 speaker from target. I'm definitely not the best just of audio quality; that's not at all what I pay attention to.

Or maybe I'm just musically retarded idk bro

It's something I've become more attentive toward recently, but only with certain genres. I still don't mind shit production if the music benefits i.e. raw black metal but power metal desperately needs a clean production and a quality mix to really pop and be something special.

If you listen back to back this album and one of their previous releases you'll instantly understand the difference in production. I think the fact that they heavily used classic orchestras has something to do with it. I remember when Rage released Lingua Mortis in the '90s, the sound was awful because they were trying to combine classical with speed/power.

good point manosg.....perhaps the production suffers in order to fully capture the integrity of all the orchestral arrangements, at least on this project anyway

I would agree with that. I did notice that the orchestra was more dominant here than in previous albums; however, the orchestration combined with Hansi's voice is what makes BG so special to me, so I don't really mind.
