totally fine with your opinion but a response to the whole review is pretty much "yea, he's mad"

Your review has some solid points despite that fact that I personally like the album. However, the whole hate-bashing stance you take doesn't couple well with how objective you try to make your review sound. Implying that your personal opinion is valid for "the listener" is a bit much and almost sounds like it's written in the second person. Just my two cents.

Obviously it's not a universal opinion. When I say the listener I'm always me and I've used that style for quite some time now. It's just for the sake of not writing it in the first person.

There are few bands in genres that I love that annoy the f**k out of me and Periphery are one of them. What an absolute waste of talent.. I seriously don't hear anything memorable in half of the songs. MK Ultra, Four Lights and 22 Faces are kind of cool, but the rest? Cringy choruses, awkward transitions, questionable songwriting in some parts and the occasional brilliant part + bad bad bad bad cleans (I mean, how can you like the first minute of the opener? It's sung bad from a technical point of view, he's straining to sound mellow like a newb would do)..

If you want some 2015 poppy djent, I'd rather Shattered Skies than Periphery.

I just had an epiphany: Spencer's whiny cleans are THE SAME of the whiner from Alesana.

review reads a lot better than it did before but you still say spencer's vocals suck like 10 times without really saying why. hes a poppy vocalist singing over poppy songs- thats all i gathered from it. also this

"The transitions between metal and the more melodic pop sections prove to be extremely awkward as well."

kinda seems shoehorned in the first paragraph. if youre going to make another point you should provide a couple examples to back it up.

Yeah, what Insurrection said. Combined with the areas you say he's ok it still just doesnt make sense. Even if its just that hes whiny or obnoxious, *tell us that*!

I think I'm gonna give a little bit more constructive criticism.

the first paragraph still makes for an awkward read because you never directly mention that Periphery relies too much on their skill as musicians, you just seem to imply that simply stating that they have "lost all substance and emotional depth" means that the reader should just assume the band k

is technicallity-based in their mind. It just would read so much better if you added something like "and instead rely on their technical chops to carry them as a band" to the first sentence and then edited for flow

The second part of the first paragraph is just a disaster in flow; you're craming a bunch of flaws into one place that by the time you say "already lackluster experience" we're confused as to what was so lackluster about it to begin with

I recommend cleaning and refocusing the entire first paragraph. Move the parts about Spencer being a bad vocalist to their own paragraph. Expound on that more, and explain the concessions youre giving more. This is the main flaw of the album from what I gather, so you want to detail it in one special, coherent place.

The second paragraph isn't much better; you're essentially still telling us Spencers vocals are "ugly" without explaining that. Then you praise the band for doing something you previously didnt like (being technical) but then go back to criticizing the song...for the same reason you liked it? Oh and also that Spencers vocals suck on it which we still haven't had coherently explained yet. Wait, you like Heavy Heart because it ISN'T technical, but then still dislike spencer even after telling us you like Spencer, and then after saying that the "pros and cons" even out, we're left with a bad song? Buddy, if you dont like something, dont describe it like you do. Its confusing and contradictory.

Third paragraph, you're using two examples from

the same song to illustrate how the whole album

is "cheesy", which is something else you kust

just expect the reader to understand without

explaining the broader things about what make

it cheesy. Is it because synth is everywhere?

Help us out! We can't read your mind. And its

gonna take more than just two examples from the

exact same song to prove your point.

Fourth paragraph, same issue. You never explain

ANYTHING about the transitions or give us an

idea of how they sound, yet thats the main flaw

here. You also gave me sorta an idea what you

meant by lack of emotion in the comments but

still give no clue in the review.

You just have to work on explaining your

thoughts and structuring them in a way that's

easy for readers to folloe. I hope my advice

helps with that; sometimes my critisism ends up

as vauge as this review lol

Yea not my best rev I'll give you that. I don't review critically often so figured I'd use this to try and improve on that. I cleaned up the first paragraph a lot and added why I think Spencer is terrible. As for the rest of your critiques, everything is valid, but I don't exactly wanna spoon feed everyone that reads. Part of it is people actually listening to the album too to see if you agree ya know? Nonetheless, you clearly like the very very specific and in depth style of reviewing and I'll take that into account for future reviews. I'll try and work a lot of that stuff in when I get some time later cause I gotta get some work done.

lol if you need to watch a "making of" video in order to appreciate the quality of something it probably isn't good

music, like all art, should speak for itself. it shouldn't require justification
