Donny is one of their best songs to date. 1% definitely up there too, can't say I can say the same about Jade Tree, a good song but I'd still rate some of their earlier tunes higher.

What ruins this album i reckon is that is just flows so poorly, no cohesion between songs.

man the vocal straining at the end of 1% is just perfect

FFAF albums aren't exactly known for flow, though, they were usually just a bunch of good songs thrown together at the best of times

Yeah that's definitely the best but it was definitely the exception that proved the rule.

true, this is definitely the worst of the bunch though, welcome home armageddon did pretty well, surprised people don't rate that album higher tbh

that album is half Iron Maiden rip-offs and half crowd-pleasing songs with screaming that have no heart to them whatsoever. surprised people don't rate it lower

I am probably biased as it was the first album I got into by them, jammed it a lot when i was in my mid teens

The problem for me is how much Matt screams. IMO, his screaming is pretty obnoxious. I love his more melodic vocals, though. I went back and listened to some of their older stuff after this to refresh my memory on albums that I didn't particularly love at the time. I started with their most controversial release, Tales Don't Tell Themselves, and I actually like that album now. While the entire album is full of cleans, it sounds a lot closer to their earlier work than Chapter & Verse, IMO.

That said, 1% has grown on me.

Agree with you, those 4 tracks are great, but yes matts strained vocals really don't do much.

man I respect so fucking much how a band can evolve so much through their discog, just going from Casually Dressed to this is like goddamn. if only they didn't have one of the most entitled fanbases of all time
