Their hits are overplayed, maybe that's why they're underappreciated...

"Their hits are overplayed, maybe that's why they're underappreciated..."
Not any moreso than any other rock band of their era. The fact that this is their only album with over 100 votes on here is surprising, especially since it isn't that far over the 100 vote mark either. With the amount of airplay some of these songs get you'd expect a few times more than that

Yes it's mysterious that only this album reaches 100 votes, given that their fanbase kept on increasing with time. Their popularity declined in the early 80's though, but they re-started the machine in mid 80's.

This is a decent review IMO. I remember back when this album came out, and I heard people talk about it as though it were the second coming of Black Sabbath metal. It's a great album, but calling it hard rock because of two songs on it is like saying Kiss is disco because they sang "I Was Made for Loving You".
Now, Heart does quite a bit of heavy music. But this and all of their early albums make it clear that they are a rock band that can delve into metal or delve into Carpenters with equal ease, and as a whole they are somewhere in the middle. But early on all of their singles were the hardest songs on the album which got them the reputation as a hard rock band; later on in the 80s it was all of their poppier songs that were singles so they got the reputation for being a pop band even though their albums still contained just as many hard rock songs as the early albums.
Heart is an enigma. They aren't as hard rock/metal as some say, and they aren't as pop/adult contemporary as others say. They apparently like to keep people guessing with each album, and maybe that's what makes them interesting.

This one also needs a better review.
I feel like Nancy doesn't get enough attention as one of the best guitarists of her era. Seriously, her work on songs like Crazy On You and Soul of the Sea is some serious virtuoso shit

I just might! Actually, a discog review might be good for increasing their exposure here. Then again, I still haven’t finished my Bowie or Who discogs, lol

Yeah not many people seem to be into them here. Their 70s albums are incredible. Dog and butterfly in particular is one of my favorite albums
