The appeal of Ben Howard continues to elude me.

Would a Scottish twang help?
|
| |
Honestly, it probably would. I feel like I should be enjoying him, yet for some reason I find him - and numerous other English singer-songwriters - utterly 'plain.'

Loving the direction he took on this album, after I heard the first one I was hoping he'd come up with something darker. And he did, but the same way I felt something was missing on the first album, I also feel about this one. I can't quite put my finger on it, it's just that every song has... something I wish was different. Still a very good album though.

Lyrically he can be a bit suspect at times, but that production and those melodies are pretty gorgeous.

Also reminds me a bit of Total Life Forever-era Foals but more folksy, in terms of sound at least
