Agreed Dropdead, nothing particularly interesting here at all. I still have confidence that she'll find her sound one day though,

cuz them cleans are something else.

Some of the chord-progressions in this sound like they're lifted straight from early-Burzum, which isn't a bad thing. My god, the drums are awful though.

split on this one. so many metal releases in this vein & aesthetic that it's tough to really give a shit, yet it's not even bad. Loving the vocal passages, they'll keep me coming back to check out the full length.

Yeah, if she (or a record engineer) could just figure out how to fit everything together properly then I'm

sure she could put out a respectable release. This one is just really clunky in more than a few places,

which detracts from its listen-ability. Let the producer do their job, get a real session drummer (or better

drum machine), and this band's debut LP should be fine.

As to who Mykur is I don't think she knows. According to Brooklyn Vegan her name is Amalie Bruun and is a member of NYC-based indie rock bands Ex Cops and MINKS. Surfing through Bandcamp you will find three songs from an Amalie Bruun EP "Crush" posted in 2013. They are pure dream pop but hilariously tagged "black metal". She even is featured on a rap track. Different year, different genre.

Yeah dream pop and then black metal. Switching styles like that is clearly just some attempt at pretentious

hipster artsyness.

This is OK, will definitely check out the album when/if it comes.

Bad production and great female vox makes me want to listen to Dismal Euphony: http://youtu.be/UC23KneT058

I'd say check out "Nattens Barn" but yeah, there's a lot better black metal albums you could be listening to.

Average is not really fair tbh, this is good. I agree the drums are pretty terrible but this is very solid otherwise. Definitely at least a 3. I think after another 2 releases she could end up with something pretty damn amazing.

What I really admire about this chick is that she's doing what I've wanted Varg to be doing for a long time now.

Not that bad a record and I'm thinking this is a 3.0-3.3 for having some balls where most woman in metal nowdays are a bunch of pussies (no pun intended).

I like it. With all the Burzum comparisons, you have to remember that even Varg released two decent albums before really going big with Hvis and Filosofem. That being said, I doubt Myrkur will ever release anything as groundbreaking as Hvis.

I think it's just the time it was released Anthemic, if something like this came out in '92 we'd be praising it today alongside Det som engang var.
