really good review Rudy
I'm getting into this more and more. Seeing them live this weekend (is Neko Case involved in their current tour? I can't tell).

After about 4 spins, I am definitely loving this album. I keep reading in various reviews how it is a "joyous return to sound", and more comments about its general upbeat nature. By no means is this an album that exudes National-esque weariness, but I get the feeling from listening that there's an underlying sadness beneath these songs. I've read about all of the turmoil some of the band members were going through prior to writing it, but I don't think enough has been made about the general melancholic production that pervades a lot of these tracks. Either way, great album

Haven't done "Whiteout Conditions" yet, but no Dan Bejar makes me sad =( - I'm sure it's great nonetheless; just snagged it in fact

Opener left me puzzled but here's Neko to the rescue with Champions of Red Wine. Excited to be checking this finally.
