It sucks that more people aren't talking about R.e.m. on here. It's such a famous band, but all the threads are completely dead and only have a few pages max. They deserve some more attention

Man I do not understand the level of praise for this album. Hell Stipe himself said this was their best album, but I'm not hearing it. To me this is the weakest album they had made until that point besides Fables. It has a few killer moments and a few good ones but a lot of it sounds like super forgettable Automatic for the People B-Sides. I don't get it. This isn't nearly as good as Monster or Out of Time, both of which don't seem to be as well received for whatever reason.
Yeah this one was a pretty big disappointment. I expected greatness and got "Yeah this is okay."

Ehhhh it definitely feels like a transition album from their early sound to their more commrcially successful song and there's a shit ton of filler. Wouldn't rank it above 3.5.

gotta disagree, love the weird folk rock sound and Stipe's crazy concept thing is at its best there. I also think Auctioneer is the only filler on there, it's a well oiled machine otherwise
