Thanks jtswope. I'll check that out. Most accessible might be the best place for me to start.

"anarcho post-crust~ amirite"
yes, their early stuff fits into that category, but their comeback album had amuch different vibe, kinda post-metal, post-punkish with a bit of crust aside.

Bring the Sun/Toussaint L'Ouverture is one of the best things they've ever done.
|
| |
this is probably their best album
|

eh doesn't have as much Americana as I would have liked
it's up there though

best next to The Burning World of course

Yeah I liked this more than The Seer. More focused, more rhythmic.

there's so much to explore on this album

i don't sit through the entire album. i've slowly made my way to all the tracks, but devoting 2 hours to listening to an album is usually unrewarding; i end up getting bored and lose interest in the music

album cant even hold ur attention wow must suck

Nice review--I didn’t like The Seer so I was prepared to dislike this one too, but it is surprisingly good—especially considering how long it is and how little is going on during that time . . . Maybe I need to give The Seer another chance.

fell asleep two separate times listening to this I guess it's not terrible though

i treat a lot of albums the same tbh, even my absolute favourites. it isn't that the music is boring, rather the act of sitting in one place listening to it for upwards of an hour is boring. and if i'm doing something while listening (like playing chess) that activity sometimes takes precedence and i become less attentive to what i'm listening to. but albums rarely need to be played in their entirety, unless there's an overarching concept and progression of the album.

I can't listen to an album while doing absolutely nothing else, unless I have no choice (like when I'm listening to music on a bus or soemthing like that, even then I'm looking at scenery so it isn't the same thing as being in one spot for long).
|

yeah honestly I don't really have the time or patience to only listen to an album for an hour. though the first few times I listen to something it's almost never background music, it's usually me listening to the album and doing something in the background. I think I've honed my taste or ears or whatever enough that I have a decent enough gauge of the album while doing something else, if that makes sense. I used to carve out time for solely listening to something, sometimes, not anymore.

I usually do something similar - It's a lot easier for me to go through an album when I'm familiar with its sound, so usually when I listen to a new album I treat it as mostly background music, focusing exclusively on it every few moments to assimilate it better while I do something else, then by the next few listens actually paying attention to it for most of it is much less of a task and it's really when they usually start "hitting me" (or vice versa if my opinion only starts getting worse).
I mostly only do this with 30~+ minute long albums, I do just fine on first listen with most EPs and stuff

yea if something really catches my attention I'll definitely listen to it much more closely, but with way too many albums I feel myself losing (primary) interest in it by the fifth song or so
on the other hand, I really concentrate on music when I'm in the car, because driving long distances is just second nature to me at this point... i.e. I had a 5 hour drive last weekend where I set up a nice playlist of five albums I really wanted to hear closer.
