It’s too early to say where The Serpent and The Sphere stands in Agalloch’s impressive discography, but it’s certainly another excellent effort from the Portland, OR metal veterans.
Yep and now I won't bitch at you for rating this so early hahahaha.
Good review and the best yet for this.

Glad I didn't give up on this, really starting to like it.

"It isn’t until the album's final breaths that it really starts to lose some steam."
I would have to disagree, that climactic post-rockesque tremolo riff near the end of Plateau and the final acoustic track are some of my favorite moments. I think the acoustic interlude in the middle could use some of the background atmospherics from the electric saw and zither/waterphone that the other two had, it's just so dull comparatively.

Not sure if I'm going to check this out, but this review gave me some hope.

thanks for the compliments guys.
@amphoteric, yeah i really dig the final acoustic track but I just haven't really been able to get into Plateau yet. I just feel like that's the song where the album starts to drag a little. Hopefully it will grow on me more though

Give it a listen soon . The latest wasn't bad . I think Pale folklore was the best IMO

Yeah, Serpent and the Sphere certainly wasn't bad, but don't expect it to hold a candle to Pale Folklore or the rest of Agalloch's discog.

Great review man as always!
I've only listened to The Mantle by these guys and even though I liked it I haven't checked any other work of theirs. I seriously need to change that.
|

Pale Folklore man.
|

Yeah, I have it on my list for such a long time and I always listen to another album for some reason. I'll try and give it a listen soon enough though.

I think I like Ashes just a bit more than Pale Folklore but yes Manosg, you should definitely dig deeper into this band. If you get the chance, their EP, The White, is also really great. Atari is actually the one who got me into that album.

I'm still listening to it.
''It may not be their most immediate album, but something about it keeps you coming back for
more.''
Very true, for me atleast.

"Finally a good review for this."
Agreed hard, both other reviews for this were terrible, especially the second one.

Cheers manosg, if u listen to any more of their albums you'll have to let me know what u think. They're honestly becoming one of my very favorite bands.

I appreciate it but I thought Judio!s review was great!

My bad, I forgot about Judio's review, but in my opinion, this one is better. Edited my post.
My apologies.

On a 3 to 4 myself, really not sure yet..
There's parts I really like and there's parts that I don't.

I actually think Plateau is a good closer

I appreciate it but I thought Judio!s review was great!
Well written indeed but anyone who doesn't admit that this album needs time - which you have done - is placed in the typical rushed Sputnik category. No offence Judio but you rushed it out just to try and score some limelight.

Their last album was a grower too... so it seems to be the direction they're taking.
Personally I wouldn't mind another White EP.
