C'mon guys this can't be that bad. I only heard this once all the way through a few weeks ago (waiting for my copy to arrive from America).

Fanfare is better than anything off PBX and Outsides.

it's good man that frusciante bar has been set so high though anything less than brilliance is kind of a let down :[

Niandra and Smile aren't that good and DC EP is too short but yeah Curtains is pretty great so I guess that's the exception still needed Josh though

That's exactly it Tom. If this was anyone else it'd be a higher rating, but Froosh isn't anyone else.

rowan you conveniently overlooked the bit where to record only water is a 5???

agreed dan

the main issue for me on this thing is the drum sounds which, when he's not just milking the amen break for all its worth, are really dry and shitty and amateurish and so out of character for a guy who supposedly cares a lot about sound quality

that and he seems to be throwing a bunch of this and that over everything which can't quite disguise the rather weak songwriting

I think the drums were programmed well from a production standpoint, but my issue with them is that the music here doesn't quite call for them. However, they actually do fit the mood on a couple of the tunes, like the first song here

yea man no issue with the programming itself just the snare sounds

Imagine how these songs would sound recorded in 'Curtains'-style.

(You may say I'm a dreamer...)

I'd like to jump into the froosh argument! :D
I also agree his first two aren't great (I flat out hate smile) but calling an EP "too short" is a bit ridiculous

It's hard for me to picture other kinds of snares used for breakbeat percussion like this, hmm. I'll pay attention the next time I spin this, which may actually be soon. For some reason, I'm getting the vibe that I liked this album more than I'm letting on.

His singing is atrocious on most of this.
