he's up there with the best

must have been the weirdest thing ever seeing him with his back turned to the audience

in a smoke-filled room. class

I'd pay good money to see him perform. Even if his back is turned lool

This is really awesome. Rodriguez's story is also stunning. It is not hard at all to see why people in South Africa considered this a classic.

Album is like a 4.2, unfortunately a couple songs hold it back, namely The Establishment Blues (great lyrics of course but the song kind of falls flat) and Gomorrah (which is quite bad tbh).

But most of the other songs are classic-level stuff, Sugar Man, Crucify Your Mind, and I Wonder in particular.

The Establishment Blues is fucking brilliant though :o

Plus Gomorrah rules too. I Wonder and Only Good For Conversation are the songs that fall too, Like Janis too to an extent.

I don't dislike The Establishment Blues, the sort of deadpan delivery doesn't do it for me.

And the interpolation of America the Beautiful in Gomorrah really bothers me for some reason.

Only Good For Conversation is great (love the bass in that song) but as a hard rock songs it's definitely out of place on this.

I don't mean to hate on this though, I love it!

Fair enough, I just really like it in Gomorrah because it fits with the lyrics and gives a different vibe. Only Good doesn't only feel out of place but it's really dull and I don't care for it.

To each his own - I'm sure at the very least we can agree that it's insane this guy went overlooked in his own country for so long.

Having only heard Rich Folks Hoax before today, this is about as good as I was expecting it to be.
Fucking amazing. Lyrical goldmine.
