See, I can act like you too. Oh wait, I actually have a dick. I don't need to.
|
| |
If you listen to this type of music and think you have a dick, then I feel sorry for you.
|
| |
Do people still think that the type of music you listen to determines how cool you are? That's really fuckin' cute.
|
| |
You're a pathetic troll though. I don't know why i even bothered.
|
| |
If I'm a pathetic troll than you're even more pathetic for taking the bait so easily and replying.

"The electronics are improved a lot from the first album, which harassed electronic instruments making in too much to listen to the ACTUAL instruments."

Kansas, your review was just okay. Not worthy of a pos or a neg. You need to describe the music more.
There's not a single mention of guitars, bass or drums in this review. You focused completely on the electronics and vocals. They're a big focus with this band sure, but that doesn't mean you can just leave out the other stuff.

I can use help, I'm 17 so I'm not perfect. But I just want to help people look to buy music, so anything that helps I want to know.

Should I edit this review and add what I think about the instruments?

For a first review, it really isn't too bad. Everyone makes mistakes on their first. Some criticisms:
Do try to avoid using first person narratives in reviews. You're the one who wrote the review, thus informing the reader before they even read it that it will be your opinion.
Another point, which is sometimes hard to do, is attempt to refrain from comparing to past works. However, if you must, explain what makes it different, for better or for worse. The reason I bring up this point is due to there being a fairly strong undercurrent of "they aren't as bad as they used to be" present throughout your review that isn't quite explained.
Discussing lyrics should almost be an afterthought in a review, unless that's one of the primary focal points of the album, such as in Brand New's The Devil and God Are Raging Inside Me, or unless they are REALLY worth discussing. Again, if you must, explain what makes them a standout feature of the album. When you talked about them, you essentially said, "They're better than they used to be," without telling the reader why. A key in reviewing is being able to answer any general question the reader may have. What genre(s) might this fall under? What kinds of vocals are utilized? Do the instrumentalists display competence, or even originality? What makes it stand out, positively or negatively, from similar artists or groups?
You mention the electronics aren't overpowering the instrumentation on this EP, yet you don't say if this means the instruments are interesting or even if they are just a good vehicle to carry the vocals along, and if I hadn't listened to this, from only having read your review, I would be under the impression that the vocals are the main focus of this EP (which they are), but I would still want to have at least a hint of what's going on underneath them.

My big criticism on your paragraph regarding the instrumentation, watch your word choice when describing certain things. "Slaughtering small guitar solos" and "smashing the snare drum a lot" sounds very off-putting to the uninformed. Certain word choices with vague context can easily make the point you're trying to convey seem negative. In-depth descriptions of things never hurt. I mean, don't give us guitar tablature to tell us what's going on, but generally describing the sound is always helpful, and will definitely attract the intended audience to listen.

Overall, your review is much better now! As encouragement for you to write more reviews in the future (which will undoubtedly only improve), have a pos!
