This is still my second least favorite, but Revelation is the only album of theirs I'd actually call outright bad. Trespass was such a leap forward that it's kinda ridiculous, lol

Definitely! Plus, in the case of Revelation, I put a lot more of the blame on Jonathan King than I do on Genesis. King was pretty much the reason that it sounded the way it did, which is why Genesis themselves basically disowned the album and considered Trespass their proper debut (Tony Banks said as much in an interview about Trespass). And yeah, Porcupine Tree was definitely the same. Up the Downstair was a huge improvement on On The Sunday of Life

I really feel bad for Ray because you know he's trying so hard and is super excited at the prospect of being the lead singer of Genesis but Rutherford and Banks give him nothing to bounce off from
Alien Afternoon is the only song here I like. That ending is pretty beautiful ngl
