M'okay. And what if it's my first exposure to Burial's music ?

Seriously? Enjoy the discoveries of gems like 'Etched Headplate' and 'Pirates' then. :]

In either case, I do find this "patchwork" production far less compelling than his more carefully constructed older tracks. If you like this style better, then more power to ya, I guess. :]

Do you dislike the monologue at the end of Rival Dealer ? I can understand for the transgender speech, but it's the end of the record anyway.

I don't dislike the monologues purely for their content, they're also totally killing the flow of the music. It's disruptive, esp. the one from 'Rival Dealer'. It's less of an issue on the vinyl version, I'm sure.

Sorry to emphasize this bit again, but i'd like to hear more hiccups like this EP. Less immersive, less structured I agree, but Rough Sleeper is pure sonic bliss.

And yet, 'Ashtray Wasp' from Kindred also had that style, but did it so much better than anything on here or on T/RS, to my ears. The way it connected all the dots from 'Kindred' and 'Loner' in such a concluding and satisfying manner makes it one of the best things he's ever done, and far more intricate than these tracks.

This is no way as patchy as Truant. Feels like 5 songs in 3.

I heard everything besides his first LP actually ! It's just that for me it meant "it's not very emotionnal because it's more of the same".

I think the first monologue is a good conclusion to the title track and introduce the shift to more heartwarming stuff but w/e.

And I won't disagree on Ashtray Wasp because it's my favourite Burial track even though I think it's a fairly different style compared to Rough Sleeper.

I honestly really like the musical styles on here, but the main detractor for me is how flat everything sounds, plus when things actually start to get going they end as soon as they began

Like Hiders spends most of its runtime building toward that final climax, which ends as soon as it begins (also the beat during that part sounds like ass. I love the idea but execution just misses the mark)

It has a kinda cheesy 80s feel in the second and third tracks, but I kinda dig it.

Small pedentic point: it's not as emotionally resonating because it's more of the same.

Welcome to the site, btw!

I agree 'Come down to Us' is prone to alienate some prior fans, but if it hits you in the right mood, it's unbelievable.

But yeah, 'Hiders' is cheesy...

If I don't see a glorious 4.5 or 5 review to counter these 2.5s soon I'm gonna have to start writing.

I really wish he'd try harder in the artwork department. At least Street Halo and Kindred gave us a color scheme to associate with the record

I'd like some more art to, as I'm a big fan of Untrue's. I wonder if maybe avoiding art is something he wants though.

I do too, although I don't even want new album art specifically, just something to differentiate his releases from one another, especially if he keeps up the same shit he's done since Truant
