Yes, In Camera has to be his second best effort after The Silent Corner. Both Nadir's Big Chance and Over are great as well. And then I'm not sure for the rest.

And I warn you about Nadir's Big Chance, for it has a punkish vibe. You'll probably have to listen more than once to fully digest. Same for the rest of his albums for that matter.

the guy is a damn genius though, up there with all the early prog greats but never hardly gets a mention

He never liked to be labelled as a proghead. More like a singer-songwriter. But it was just like playing with words.

I need to explore this guy's solo discog. I've passed up numerous opportunities to pick this up when I've been browsing in record shops. What I've heard from it sounds great.

maybe the cover that looks like a flaccid 90 year old ass with a balloon sticking out of it put you off

It does the same effect to me. Welcome to the club.

@Jamie, you cant go wrong from this one until Over (included). I'm not sure after these.

Hammill had room for creativity for doing this and couple more albums during a hiatus of VDGG. I find Silent Corner & Empty Stage almost perfect. I first found Modern to be a weak point, but it's finally a grower. And then we have Rubycon, an acoustic one where nothing much is happening. But it's not enough to put the album away from a 5. There it is.
