One of my desert island disks. This, Infected, and the Talk Talk holy trinity are some of the best stuff to come from the 80's

Piano work in Uncertain Smile is superb.

This has got to be the biggest “Doof band” that I haven't gotten into yet, eh?

Not sure they’ll be your favourite, can’t call it
|
| |
Maybe not but I've always felt I owe 'em a listen for how adjacent our taste generally is.

"Clever" is underselling it methinks

listening to this for the first time now but my roommate definitely played This Is The Day all the time. That combined with this being a legit 80s song and filled with hella reverb its giving me hella nostalgia
|
| |
am i wrong in thinking the opener is pretty clearly the worst song
|
| |
That's completely valid. This Is The Day should've been the opener. Woulda been an all-timer
|
| |
yeah not even a bad song but it feels kind of weird as the opener. amazing album overall

it has to be the opener, thematically, and with the intro...but also it is very very strange
it makes me think of 'Pretty Hate Machine', can imagine young Trent digging it

I’m just a symptom of the moral decay that’s eating at the heart of the

This is a top tier record. I love how emotionally nuanced it is—a lot of the musical elements are dancey and fun despite the lyrical themes. I’ve Been Waitin’, This Is the Day, Uncertain Smile, Soul Mining, and Giant are my favourites, but every track hits—even the bonus track. Also love the contrast between this and Infected. This is more about internal struggle and existential musings. It’s very moody and introspective, whereas Infected is more righteous anger and external war. They’re both distinct and equally special albums

Great to see you digging The The so much Gyro
'Mind Bomb' and 'Dusk' are a little step down but I'd still say essential if you liked those two.
