This album is simply fantastic. Could be his best.

It's too bad more people aren't on board with this band.

"...the Family Tree trilogy is far too honest to write off as pretentious."

I was glad to hear you mention this. In all of Radical Face's work, there's something immediately likable about the tracks. These concept albums come natural to him, and his writing always seems genuine.

Did you check out Ghost yet?

I haven't yet, but that's next on my list. And I guess that's his most popular/well-known too. Does it have a similar style lyrically?

It's definitely not the same narrative style. Welcome Home is his most popular track, and it actually has a similar vibe, but a lot of the tracks are much more abstract and descriptive. Some of the descriptive phrases paint some amazing visuals in your head, but it's never really a straightforward story. It's more of a sensory experience, but I'm really into that.

Ben uses more modern instruments on Ghost, but the production is a bit better on The Family Tree albums. He's definitely finding his groove now in the toolshed.

Check out Welcome Home of course, along with:

Wrapped In Piano Strings

Let The River In

Winter Is Coming

Sleepwalking

You might get more of a Family Tree vibe from Glory.

Yea, I've said it before.

You mean yeah*??? I know you say this in FB chat, but I mean, it's spelt the other way... or have I somehow missed an alternate spelling of such a common phrase?

far too honest to write off as pretentious.

I really do hate the word 'pretentious,' and it has everything to do with its connotation on this site. While I won't say it's necessary you change it, I do think it'd read more smoothly to say something like 'to write off for any of the above reasons.' Sums up the paragraph a bit more, I think

it's only fitting the follow-up should continue that successful method on The Branches.

More personal pref here, but would it make more sense to say "it's only fitting that its follow-up should..." ?? Up to you for shure

The sheer immensity and triumph of them is almost baffling given how similar the music is to its predecessor as the record, for the most part, is extremely similar in sound to The Roots.

Great sentence, just change up one of the 'similar' s in it to avoid redundancy.

but the music sticks to its Roots

OH SHYT. I think this joke would be better sans the capitalization.

That's about it! You have a great way of describing the album's sound while still maintaining the reader's interest-- the rest of this was great. Keep these things in mind, but remember they're only minor quibbles.

I'm ashamed to say I didn't know there was really a difference between "yea" and yeah." I always assumed it was just preference or habit, but that they were interchangeable. Thanks for making me aware of that.

With "pretentious," I was kinda addressing exactly your concern (or at least that was my intention); the fact that the word is overused and cliche on sputnik and that I myself have been caught using it too much.

ah, didn't notice I used "similar" twice. good catch.

I mean, it isn't by any means necessary that you hear The Roots before this one, but the lyrics on this may hit a little harder if you're familiar with those on the Roots as there is an ongoing narrative to a degree.

And yeah the Gilded Hand is maybe the best song he's written.
