Saw this in IMAX today. Holy shit. That seventeen minute long beginning shot really sets the bar high for the rest of the movie, and the whole movie doesn't let up at all. Soundtrack sets the tone really well.

Even though I said the soundtrack is "tension and release," that's pretty much the entire movie as
well. :P

Honestly, I like this better than Apollo 13. But if we're comparing it to 2001... well, that's a lot
more difficult because I love 2001 and Kubrick in general

If you came away from this film just saying the plot was simple and the special effects were amazing I feel bad for you.

The film is about so much more than her simply surviving through disastrous consequences in space. It's highly

allegorical and the imagery that elucidate the allegory is pretty blatant at times (embryo when entering space station

etc.).

i wouldnt say the plot was too simple per se and i agree with the hidden meanings, but many of the scenes didnt make sense with gravity (or lack there of).
too many questions after seeing it. it was still worth seeing in 3d though.

3D is just another gimmick to get at your money, pointless.

3D is not used as a gimmick in this film. And I'm not sure if you know what an allegory is, but the film never claims to be scientifically accurate, because it is metaphorical. The film is utterly fictional, so trying to criticize it for scientific accuracy seems pointless.

On topic here though; the film's soundtrack should have been way more minimalistic. The spectacle speaks for itself.

Yeah, the 3D enhances this movie instead of feeling tacked on. I just still find it crazy that the film has a 97% on Rotten Tomatoes

Wildorwhat, yes I noticed all that and I talked about it with other people. Like, im sure you noticed the most evident allegorical stuff is right at the end of the movie. I just wasnt impressed by that either.

I was scared by 2001, because I feared it might bore me to death.

I think you'll enjoy it. There's definitely more to it than just the visuals, even though watching it in 3D is the best way to go

I like the fact that almost half of the movie is just Sandra Bullock. Something that is rarely done right.
