'No God's a Man' and particularly 'The Face' are the least enjoyable here. The rest is nearly perfect.

Not my top GG, but still a killer record! Agreed on no god and the face, jethro.

''So Sincere'' is hard to digest agreed, but when you hear the live version from Playing the Fool, you're in for a treat. Song is more long, powerful and it contains a delightful drum bash. I garantee you that this version makes you enjoy ''So Sincere'' a lot more.

The link is not from Playing the Fool, but it's an excellent version too (almost identical). When the drums enter, omg.

well, the song off the album sounds like they've thrown in random notes here and there

The drums (especially) and the vocals come to glue it all together imo. I confess they use to do more clever arrangements. Maybe they just tried too hard on this one.

@jethro, i absolutly adore "no gods a man" great chord progressions which go from joyous to forebording in seconds, amazing entwining vocals and THAT guitar solo is just perfect. Gary knew how to make a gibson sg sing

Now that I relisten, I agree with you on all the points, except for the vocal harmonies. I find them rather ordinary. But song is better to me now that you speak of it.

Haha good stuff. I'll be honest, when I used to listen to this album as a whole, it was one of those tracks that just drifted by unnoticed, it was only when I listened to it individually after some other bands music in the mix that I noticed what a unique track it was in gg's discog.

Three Friends is easily my least favourite of their classic era albums (haven't heard the debut yet though)

@undertake, gotcha man, sometimes a song has to be out of its context to be more appreciated.

@SCREAM, I think Three Friends is also my least favorite of their classic era, but I have it at a 4.5/5. I just realized I have them all between 4.5/5 and 5/5, except for the s/t (4) and Interview (4). Three Friends is more like ''improvisation'' laden, more like jam rock at places. It takes more time than the others to be appreciated.

Also I urge you to get their s/t. It rocks hard. Rec'd tracks; Giant, Funny Ways, Alucard and Nothing At All.

Yeah self titled kicks a lot of ass. Even "isnt it quiet and cold" has a whimsicle charm, almost like your sitting in an old warm english pub
