So jamming this, I still prefer the last one by far, but I don't get the hate for these guys.
Can someone elaborate?

Their rather typical style of black metal blended with their OTT image and presentation tends to turn people off, especially when you top that off with their massive popularity - people tend to get this “elitist” attitude towards it, criticising the band for being boring in the face of their popularity, and needlessly arrogant in their attitude and beliefs and towards the genre as a result.

Truth is, while they’re pretty in-you-face with their presentation and ideals, they’re more dedicated to underground metal and its continuation and preservation than most other bands these days. It can rub people the wrong way. But after a while, I figure you gotta love their attitude. And most musicians in the scene will tend to vouch for them, while it’s the listeners that poke fun.

i couldn't give a shit about any of that i just think their music is bland, uninteresting, and overproduced as far as bm goes

Appreciate the explanation Snox. I mean I am no expert at all in Black Metal, it's a genre I got into very recently so I am kind of lost when all those arguments happen. Listening to this, and from my totally ignorant point of view, ido, it sounds good to me, but I guess if it goes beyond the music, then it's where it gets really complicated.

" i just think their music is bland, uninteresting, and overproduced as far as bm goes"

But aren't different approaches to production or songwriting inside every genre? Some people dig the overproduced approach, some the lo-fi murky stuff...

Band's not even overproduced. They're just not lo-fi.

There was a band I heard last year... I think it was Dumal? That sounded kinda lo-fi but it had its charm. i dig Watain's production, specially on Trident Wolf.

Watain have nice production for sure. The kind that’s basically unnoticable.
