He meant album wise so it still fits. Beatles' and pink floyd's most famous albums are also their most critically acclaimed: revolver, abbey road, dark side, animals, wish you were here.

Absolute classic album. So is In Utero. Around late 91'/early 92'a school friend of mine gave me a tape with Nevermind/Bleach. My love of rock was born.

Such a shame we never got to hear more music from these guys. The final line up on the last tour was seriously impressive with the addition of Pat Smear on guitar check out 'Drain you' live 94' ;

I will never, ever understand any of Nirvana's stuff.

I accept that they were revolutionary, but I just can't get into their stuff except "Aneurysm", which isn't even on this album.

I don't think he had any ideals of changing the face of rock. He was just some junkie who wanted to rock out for the rest of his days.

Saying he was a visionary or the other extreme, just a junkie is wrong IMO. How many other musicians have taken drugs? The Beatles, the Stones. Pretty much all the greats at one point or another.

He was a guy froma small logging town who was passionate about music and art in general and had a talent for both. If he hadn't been a musician he'd have been a painter. Kurt wasn't comfortable with the huge level of success of his band. A shy guy fronting one of the biggest bands of their time after the huge success of Nevermind. Even after it was released KC was tring to play it down, saying he didn't really like it as it's too 'poppy' for his liking (but not to the masses of music fans & media all over the world). That's why In Utero was so different, a reaction against the mainstream.

I realize people get sick of the over exposure of Nirvana/Kurt Cobain but despite being a hugely popular/mainstream act Kurt's music & lyrics are full of real passion and emotion, make no mistake. He wanted to quit Nirvana (announced shortly before he died) as he didn't want to pretend that he was happy, a genuine honest guy.

I bet there are a lot of musician/bands who continue milking it for years, going through the motions and ripping off the fans with half assed, regugitated music.

There have been very few since on the same level as KC/Nirvana IMO.

Kurt Donald Cobain (February 20, 1967 – April 5, 1994) was an American musician and artist, best known as the lead singer, guitarist and primary songwriter of the grunge band Nirvana. Cobain formed Nirvana with Krist Novoselic in Aberdeen, Washington, in 1985 and established it as part of the Seattle music scene, having its debut album Bleach released on the independent record label Sub Pop in 1989.

After signing with major label DGC Records, the band found breakthrough success with "Smells Like Teen Spirit" from its second album Nevermind (1991). Following the success of Nevermind, Nirvana was labeled "the flagship band" of Generation X, and Cobain hailed as "the spokesman of a generation".[1] Cobain, however, was often uncomfortable and frustrated, believing his message and artistic vision to have been misinterpreted by the public, with his personal issues often subject to media attention. He challenged Nirvana's audience with its final studio album In Utero (1993). It did not match the sales figures of Nevermind but was still a critical and commercial success.

During the last years of his life, Cobain struggled with heroin addiction, illness and depression. He also had difficulty coping with his fame and public image, and the professional and lifelong personal pressures surrounding himself and his wife, musician Courtney Love. On April 8, 1994, Cobain was found dead at his home in Seattle, the victim of what was officially ruled a suicide by a self-inflicted shotgun wound to the head. The circumstances of his death at age 27 have become a topic of public fascination and debate. Since their debut, Nirvana, with Cobain as a songwriter, has sold over 25 million albums in the US, and over 75 million worldwide.
