It seems a lot more subtle to me on this album. But O'Brother is definitely not a sludge band, they just take some influence from it.

Their live show is pretty killer. I've seen them a few times and every time they seem to get better.

What you talkin bout Willis's this shit sounds pretty sweet first time through.

Surprised I haven't heard of these guys before considering how good this is. Have to agree with the sludge influences, it's present, but in my opinion gives the album a more stoner metal feel.

Can anyone link a stream of this that's current?

I really enjoyed Death of the Day and Garden Window, so I am surely stoked to check this out.

First listen, this sounds all over the place. It seems I'm going to have to listen several times to put it together.

My first 4 or 5 listens really disappointed me. I am a huge fan of their EP and debut LP, but it's been really growing on me. There are far fewer ethereal moments but I've been picking out a lot more subtleties. Less Thrice-y in general and more toward Alice in Chains meets Oceansize

Eh I don't really get all the claims that it's "all over the place", it mostly sounds like mellow, slightly neurotic, ambient-oriented rock. Not near the genius that is Garden Window. Hopefully it's a grower and not a shower.

Haha, opinions vary.

Yeah, what a wonderful concept, opinions. For what it's worth I'm gonna choose to assume I just need to listen to it more closely.

You shouldn't force yourself to like an album.
If I don't really dig one I usually wait a few weeks before I listen to it again.
|
| |
No, you shouldn't; but I recognize that I'm unfairly discriminatory towards music, especially when it's not heavy, so sometimes I have to push myself through several listens.

It really depends on what mood I'm in as well. Although, I try not to judge music based on my mood... to have a more objective approach. I can normally tell if music is a genuine expression even though I'm not in the mood for it. But even that can be unreliable. The human being is a fickle concept, haha.

Sounds awesome. Band kills live.
