"there are people out there who still know what hip-hop is; Killer Mike and El-P are two such people."

at the risk of hillcunt popping up to make one of his "educated" posts, I'll ask: what exactly is hip hop?

hahaha sweet, I actually kind of enjoyed that. lol though cause:

hanson - come on nig you know what I mean. I'm not interested in "journalism" per se, I just like occasionally word-vomiting about music I like. I actually originally had two extra sentences at the beginning but axed them for reasons. I do get what you're saying though. It's not the best way to start the review, but overall I don't hate it and this was a review that I kind of scrapped to begin with.

it's actually kind of nice though, I liked it!

what I meant by the summary though was that these guys are still rapping about things they feel passionately about, and you can hear the passion in their music. they speak for the underprivleged and the disenfranchised, and about humanity's cruelness overall, whereas people like you know who just focus on themselves, truly drawing content from how much material they have acquired (whereas these two use that approach almost ironically). it relates to hillary's huge post. there's an ethos that real hip-hop is meant to embody, and I get that a lot more from Run The Jewels than I do from any other hyped rap album of this year.

I just think the whole "True" or "Real" or whatever *genre*/music is dumb, I mean ultimately genres
are styles in the music (yeah there's a lot more than just that but that's big basis) and I don't
understand how can one be any less fit in the style, no matter how much they deviate from the
formula by fusioning it (to varying extents) with other styles or being having less "emotion" to it
(if it all got back to that we might as well not even call those generic clu songs with no passion
or anything of the sort put into them. I mean it's dispposable and meaningless, true, but I don't
really think it's any less of pop music for it)

I do see where you come from, though, this does feel like it has a lot more to say than simply
bragging, even there's some of it here and there (though that's ultimately part of the course for
hip hop at this point), and I understand why people would take it more seriously if it has a real
message to it instead of endless wankery, but still

There's a difference between consciously combining elements of your own genre with others in the hopes of creating some new, fresh art and misinterpreting a genre or ethos altogether. I'm arguing that the you-know-whos are doing the latter.

And I generally agree with your basic "I just think the whole "True" or "Real" or whatever *genre*/music is dumb" statement. But we're talking about hip-hop, and it's not just a genre of music. They're misrepresenting a culture completely, but acting like they're taking it in this new progressive direction.

my opinion but um yeah you're kind of several pages behind so I'm not gonna keep this conversation going. just think more about it if it interests you, but hip-hop is so, so much more than what you're pigeonholing it as (beats and rapping, no?)

You got a real faggish tone on this review to say the least... im laughing out loud

"bursting with carefully structured verses of intelligent social commentary"

"stay true to ourselves, no matter what the outside world is trying to do to us. Success in life is what you define it to be, and you fail as an individual when you let another person define it for you. "

"Their chemistry is simply stunning"

"We can only grow by never forgetting who we truly are and remembering the importance of love in a world of evil, corrupting forces."

This is probably the single gayest fanboy review I have read on this site. Like, are you trying to sound like Neil Patrick Harris or can you just not help it?

You have no idea how dumb you look riding Killer Mike's dick and trying to diss Immortal Technique. Their message is basically identical and yet you rage on IT forums and write a 6 paragraph love letter to Killer Mike. Obviously you just want El-P and Killer Mikes nuts, that explains the avatar and this incredibly gay review.
