It's good, but it lacks the energy of their past albums. I wished they would have just made an EP if they were gonna tone down their songs like this.

The Star Wars prequels sucked because of the acting, some of the writing, and Jar Jar, not because nobody cared about the evolution of Vader. :-[

They really should have dropped this story a long time ago and moved on to something else. Travels was great because there was no pretense to it. Now each new album is suffering because they didn't anticipate how BORING this story would get.

I did like No Shame. The story about how the Dad went after the junkies was good

While I hope it grows on me a little bit more, I still think it isn't nearly as bad as it is being made out to be.

I completely agree that the story of the father isn't connected well enough to the previous entries of the "trilogy".

Defeater should have stopped the story line after Lost Ground and given us a fresh story in the same vein as Travels. Giving alternate perspectives and fleshing out other characters is still a cool concept so I can't fault them too much. It just seems that the content is starting to overlap and wear thin. I understand questions about the characters and their motivations still exist, but sometimes the best answer is no answer at all.

Good review. I liked this album though. It's a lot more straightforward than their other stuff but I still think the songs sounded really solid. Would've liked them to switch it up more though. and The Difference Between Hell and Home is better than this.

Basically mirrors my thoughts. Disappointing album, although Bastards is great.

Really other than Bastards, No Faith, Blood in My Veins and Rabbit Foot, this album is pretty meh overall. I love the part at 0:35-0:45 in Blood, at least that's pretty original for them.
