I think the bass from the guy who used to be in lip bizkit is horrible...jon was much better...this cd def. needs some getting used too, but hell its still better than most of the shit out there.

So some people have been saying that this is not as good as the first CD. I have to strongly disagree. Ross robinson didn't ruin them, or make them better, he gave them yet another Uniqness. Dear Diary was very unique, but HEROINE is unlike anything i've ever heard from any band of this genre. I love HEROINE, and i love dear diary, they both have there ups and downs. I am pretty crazy about the new record, not that its better than the 1st, because i dont have an opinion on that part, but its the whole fact that it is something new, and different, that is the shit. it mixes alittle bit of the old, with a shit load of new, and out pops one of the most terrific Albums i've heard in awhile.

Side note, From First to Last fucking rules, and so does the new CD. They Fucking rule live to!!!!!This Message Edited On 04.01.06

I don't really think that this whole "good music because it's different" rhetoric is worth a damn, to be perfectly honest. I'm not really into this album; over-produced much like NIN, not a huge fan of that stuff. I did like Dear Diary... but this seems as though they tried too hard to be "unique" and "different." Personally, I think the only way to truly write music is to not try to write something new and different, its to just write what comes to you. Anyway, this CD sounds the same from beginning to end like most CDs do presently. Some songs are decent once you give them a couple chances to catch your fancy, but initially this is an over-produced CD with not an overwhelming amount of musical talent thrown in (save the drumming). By no means do I mean this offensively, this is merely my personal opinion.

nice first review, might want to check the grammar though. i've never actually heard this band before, but my friend loves them.

hey VRWCO8, how do you feel about finch's sound change? just curious because i love it, and it is very different and unique, it just has to grow on people because it is such a huge departure from their older stuff, but once you get over the shock, the album just gets a million times better than the first impression. This Message Edited On 04.02.06

I agree with you that finch's last album does get a million times better than the first impression, and it's a really cool album, but I still prefer their first.
Pity they broke up, too.

Finch's album is decent after you get used to it, I agree this kind of stuff does grow on you. However, Finch's second album is horribly redundant, it seems as though every song has the same structure (heavy verse - mellow chorus, or some variant of that). The same seems to be true for FFTL. I wouldn't mind uniqueness if redundancy wasn't such a staple for what most musicians see as "unique." To me, it seems as though a truly unique sound would be something with a myriad of different sounds rather than one distinct (and usually annoying) sound. So yeah, I guess my main point is this: I wouldn't mind this sound at all if there was some variance in the structure and overall sound of the songs and this applies to this new FFTL CD and the newer Finch CD.

well, there is a contrast to your formula though. Miro, A man alone, and several other songs have a mellow verse with a heavy verse, and miro is almost calm all the way through, as is bitemarks and bloodstains. also, The Casket of Roderik Usher is heavy all the way through. this doesnt really belong on this thread though, just giving examples.

I'd say that Bitemarks And Bloodtsains is mellow in the verse and then 'heavy' (it's all relative) in the chorus.
I think VRW's talking about dynamics though, which is what we should be saying instead of calm and heavy, I guess.
And yeah, this is all off topic, but it beats talking about FFTL.

i cant necessarily agree with that though, since i have never heard FFTL before.

also, you switched the t and the s in bloodstains and i spent like 20 minutes trying to figure out what was wrong with it... ha ha.. im stupid. but yeah, i guess he does mean dynamics, i was just taking it literallyThis Message Edited On 04.02.06

I have "Dear Diary..." and honestly I'm not a fan of it. However, I heard the single not too long ago and I thought that maybe they were improving? I don't know, I'll have to check this out.

Very, very well wrote review though.

I dont know guys. I think From First To Last is a very good band. One of my favorites. But when it comes to comparing the albums, I dont know what to say; they're entirely different and I can't make up my mind. I couldn't get enough of the first album. But I was kind of dissapointed with the new one. Left me thinking, "What the hell is this??" I think I kind of got my hopes up for something else. Now I think I listen to Heroine when I feel pissed off and what not, and I'll listen to Dear Diary when I feel like listening to some good music!!

Takes a lot more than a couple of times listening to this album to appreciate it. I kinda hated it the first time I listened to it but decided to give it a second chance. And well worth it. Although the lyrics are not my cup of tea every here and there since I am past the anorexia adolescence years, the music is addictive (hence the name? (sic)). I think I listened to "World War Me" about 30 times today. Yeap, coming next on the playlist. But then again, I am a Dimmu Borgir through Slipknot to Aretha Franklin kinda guy too. So any of you "Dear Diary ..." disappointed fans, give this album one or even more chances before discarding it as krap. Cheers.
