An interesting comparison:
- Wornin' to Sleeping Beast, from Remission
- Glowbel to Far Too Frail, from Remission
And they re-did Solvent, also from Remission. Sounds to me like Key was trying to find where he was at, musically speaking, before Goettel joined the band. I don't care much for Glowbel or Wornin' either, or Sleeping Beast for that matter, but Puppy went on to create some great records, so hopefully....
BTW, did anyone notice a Puppy single released about a year ago that sounded NOTHING like Puppy? And has since disappeared? It was just an ambient piece, a piano pattern and a bunch of harmonic progressions. I assumed it was just mislabelling for another band. But Key has never been a big one for using triads (Goettel apparently brought the harmonic knowledge), so maybe this was some experimentation on Key's part to introduce a new sound?

Totally! I've persuaded (or deluded?) myself that that single represents Key's effort to start working closer with Mark Walk, since their chemistry is apparently nothing like it was with Goettel. That means a new album!
Like a dog waiting at the train station for months for his master to return, that's the story I'm telling myself, and I'm sticking to it.

"never understood the surrounding hype at all."
Well, either you like it or you don't. I think it's an absolutely superb culmination of everything that's great about this band over their whole career... if you don't see it, that's fair enough... there's nothing anyone could say if it's just not to your taste.
