steepike kicks ass *bows down*
Mr. "down with the system". You listen to him. He knows his shit. I came in here on my first day. Ran my mouth in a greenday review. And had my ass handed to me. Although I did do a better job of defending myself than you did.
Steerpike. I still plan on sending you recordings, I still have to get a mich though (I keep blowing my money on booze )

Its a comment box, hence based on opinion, so if he was so e-cool he would ignore my wramblings. I know I talk shit sometimes but like I said, comment box, opinion, not fucking fact.

An opinion is not a license to act like a dumbass. Furthermore, you have no justification for spouting off your ill-informed opinions as if they were fact.
The whole point of stating an opinion on this site is to back it up. You have to actually demonstrate some intelligence and a moderate grasp of the English language. You have no right spouting off your opinion on your little soapbox if you don't even have the self-respect, common courtesy, and chutzpah to back it up should you get called on it.
Stop hiding behind the word "opinion" like a shield, and accept the fact that you decided to shoot your mouth off like a spoiled, excitable brat, and you got pwned for it. Sit down, shut up, and get back into your time-out corner, punk.
I am smarter than you, wittier than you, and much more articulate than you. And should you continue to desperately and ineffectually try to justify your whiny bullshit, myself and others will always be there to put your uppity n00b ass back in its place. This Message Edited On 05.18.06

i see what you mean...
Btw i dont think anything is special about their drummer, he just uses the double bass pedal alot... although people i know who play drums say they are knackered after playing certain trivium things such as rain. This Message Edited On 06.13.06

Steerpike i didn't know you were a certified genius. I guess that's why you think your voice on the subject is much more important then everyone else's. If you don't like them stop posting comments on their reviews you narcissistic piece of shit. Go beat off to a picture of yourself if you like yourself so much.

I admit I'm an egotistical prick and think people like you are brain-dead apes. But I never fault anybody for their taste. Taste is something no one should ever have to apologize for. What I do not tolerate is stupidity. That's why I've been arguing with you. You just keep telling people that if they disagree with you, they shouldn't be reviewing albums.
As an aside, you really have no business telling me where I can and cannot post.

OMFG!!! Where the hell are you people getting this idea that i said people can't disagree with me?!?!?!? I'm assuming you can read and write if your using this site so why don't you actually start doing so?

Because that's the way you're coming off, kid. It's not what you say so much as how you say it. You keep getting all pissy about reviewers, saying they're too biased to write, but you only say that about people who are on the opposite end of the spectrum from you. You tell people that no one cares about their opinions, you've told me not to post here.
Honestly, I think you're just another fanboy looking for a fight.

I don't really care what you think because your too full of yourself to change your mind about anything anyway. And i haven't ordered anyone to do anything. The people that reviewing these already don't like Trivium so they're not going to write a fair review. No one really listened to what i said. I'm not just a fanboy picking a fight. I think your just completely anti Trivium and no one like you wants to be told that there is actually good things about them.
|

It seemed to me by just reading the beginning of your review that you don't like this band at all so you really shouldn't be writing reviews about bands you don't like.
Yet,
Thats not even what i'm trying to say. I said a lot of solos fit the mood of the song and a lot of the time Dragonforce seems like it doesn't.
you can be a hypocrite? Thank you for proving my point.

And what exactly would a fair review look like? What rating would it give this album?
I think your just completely anti Trivium and no one like you wants to be told that there is actually good things about them.
You're right about one thing. I do fucking this music. Though I do believe if Heafy drains the ego from his swollen head like pus from a blister, then they probably could produce a decent album. Ascendency was repetitive and banal, while The Crusade was even worse because it's a shameless rip-off of their influences. If they got off that kick, they could probably make at the very least a half-decent album.
I've said all this many times before. People much smarter than you have argued this with me, and they were fans too. But they never got as hostile as you and we both agreed to live and let live. If you like tihs band, go ahead and buy their albums. It has no effect on me. But don't get all pissy because people like me have opposing opinions and aren't afraid to state them.

You're very very presumptious. I'm getting hostile because I obviously like them and instead of saying constructive things everyone just wants to in a sense make fun of them. They're not really opposing opinions but more or less insults.

What would you prefer I say?

Constructive criticism, and i'm not saying you said things like this but many people do and it doesn't really help people who are trying to get an opinion of the cd but when people say, Heafy's voice sucks or Heafy blows. People just insult them because they don't like them. They don't actually give people a good understanding of what the music and singing is like.

I've been pretty descriptive of my opinion of the vocals and how I came to that conclusion. I've stated again and again that Heafy's technique is horrible and how I know this. I've actually had to warn a couple fans who came to the forums asking how to duplicate the sound, warning them what kind of damage they'd be doing to their throats.
I've also asserted many times that the technical aspect of the guitarwork is fine, but the songwriting is uninspired.
I've said repeatedly that Trivium need to step out of the shadow of their idols if they want to grow musically.
I'm not sure what more you want from me.

First of all you're not gonna do damage to your throat if you know what you're doing and know how to treat it afterward. Also i think the songs have inspirations but no one wants to think about it because all they care about is just joining the band wagon and making fun of them. You definitely know what you're talking about but i just think that overall that review wasn't fair and many people who continue that criticism aren't fair either.

A lot of those reviews were written before there was a bandwagon to jump on. Keep that in mind. Myself and many others here are also very intelligent individuals and we never speak when we're not prepared to back up what we say.
As an aside, I actually practice harsh and clean vocals myself. I take influence from Lee Dorrian of Cathedral, Petri Lindroos of Norther, Matt Barlow of Iced Earth, Glenn Danzig, Michale Graves, Nils Patrick Johansson of Wuthering Heights, Ronnie James Dio, Peter Steele of Type O Negative, Angela Gossow of Arch Enemy, and Jyrki 69 of The 69 Eyes. The tone Heafy had on Ascendency can only be produced by doing it wrong.

Your opinion of him "doing it wrong" is however just an opinion. You might think its wrong but a lot of other people might not.

No, I can tell you right now, it is wrong empirically. When screaming, never, never, never let the throat tighten. This cannot be stressed enough. It has to pass effortlessly form the larynx.
If you scream from the throat, you will hurt yourself. And good vocals never hurt the vocalist. Ask any professional vocalist in the extreme metal scene if they use the same technique as Matt Heafy on Ascendency, and if they're worth their salt, they will tell you that they do not.

Well I can tell you from seeing him that he does it effortlessly. Besides you can't tell from just hearing him what technique he uses unless you are him which i'm pretty sure you aren't.
