These vocals are definitely leaning towards emo

When this band came out the press claimed they had a nu metal influence. There are heavier moments on the album. Deftones championed them.

Evolution doesn't leap ten years, there were other bands between this and MCR.

they're emo vocals for sure but not clean ones. the press doesn't mean bullshit you know that, and these guys were friends with Deftones doesn't make them the same genre. heavier =/= nu-metal

Nu metal at the time meant 'current metal' same as alt rock at the time meant 'current rock' - the historians then went back and tried to define them more clearly as if they were an actual musical distinction

That's why stuff like Marilyn Manson, Amen, Fear Factory, Orgy, etc were labelled nu metal at the time but now you look back and think 'probably not the same genre actually'

Orgy weren't at all heavy, about as metal as the Bee Gees, but they were classed as nu metal xD

You have touched upon a subject that does get me back up.

The whole 'this is that genre' thing broken down into a trillion off shoots of what is essentially the same thing. Absolute nonsense.

Rock
Blues
Metal
Jazz
Dance
Country
Hip-Hop
Reggae
Ska
Classical
Soul
Folk

That'll do ya.

Great album, but not nu metal. When Korn's first album came out people were calling it industrial because they didn't know what else to call it. I remember reading reviews for this band's previous release, Tin Cans and Strings..., and they were trying to compare it to Korn. That's why I bought it, and it turned out to be nothing like Korn. Your average reviewer will make shit up over admitting they don't know.

I agree to an extent. When it gets to bands on Sputnik being tagged in 5 different genres it becomes a bit much.
